⚠️ Heads up: Windows will probably warn you. Featherclip isn't code-signed yet (it's a small indie tool), so Windows SmartScreen will say "Windows protected your PC" on first run. Click More info → Run anyway to continue. This is normal for any unsigned software. It is not a sign the file is dangerous.

Windows Defender may quarantine the download. Some builds trigger Microsoft's cloud-based heuristic detector (Trojan:Script/Wacatac.H!ml). This is a known machine-learning false positive caused by Featherclip's anti-piracy protection (XOR-obfuscated strings) and its self-updating mechanism - the same heuristics that protect your PC from real malware can't tell the difference between "hiding code from crackers" and "hiding code from antivirus." This exact detection has been reported to Microsoft as a false positive.

If Defender deletes the file: open Windows Security → Protection history → click the detection → Actions → Restore. Then add a folder exclusion in Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Manage settings → Exclusions → Add your Featherclip install folder (%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Featherclip for the installer, or wherever you unzipped it). Once the app is running, Defender will not flag the active process.

Verify the file before you run it. The SHA-256 hash of the current release is published below. You can check it yourself: Get-FileHash Featherclip-Setup.msi -Algorithm SHA256 in PowerShell. If the hash matches, the file is genuine.
